DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT JESSICA HELGERSON KATE DWELL IN STYLE

Black is bold, dramatic and sexy. Like the little black dress or the black tuxedo. But certainly not everyone dares to use it in their homes. Jessica Helgerson is not afraid to use colors and she does it effortlessly. Jessica has the formula to balance feminine and masculine styles as evidently from this space, it looks like a lady will adore and a dude can totally chill in.

Well, hello Tom Dixon pendants and Wishbone chairs. Dark colors tend to give a feeling of your walls closing in (if you paint it dark on four walls), it makes the space appears smaller (kinda cave like). I’m loving the contrast of white walls and black kitchen. With such great ceiling height, the black in this kitchen creates warmth and a more intimate cooking/ dining experience. Very romantic. Simply stunning.

Remember this sofa? Yeah, the one that we shortlisted for our new home. See above for the velvet version, gosh…this sofa just can’t look bad, can it? In another bedroom that Jessica designed, we’re seeing color being used as feature.(I actually considered doing this for my bedroom 2 years ago, I love how the grey over the ceiling looks like it’s enveloping my bed). This bedroom works with dark grey, soft cream with pops of bright colors, who would have guessed?

In an ideal world we would have lived in a loft although my husband will never understand such bookcase (because we don’t have books but I told him we will…). And image right, when I saw this nook, I’m thinking you know, if you live in an older apartment that has a designated storeroom built in, how about making it open like this? You know what open spaces does? It makes your home visually bigger because your eyes can see everything. The question is not why, the question is why not

And she does kids bedrooms. Wooden toys can be such elegant solution than plastic toys and they look great. I’m seriously considering these toys when we have our own kid (ideally few years from now). With that said, can I have that rocking lamb please (and also that cute bear)…

Such masculine home office, that leather and wood chair on castors! So much style I can’t even begin to describe it. Dark grey walls can be so cozy, perfect for a bedroom. You see, a well designed space does this magic that makes you think, I want to be in that space, I want to be that person who lives there.

This 540 square feet house is where Jessica and her family lives, it’s inspirational. This shows that you don’t need a big house or space to be happy, most importantly, is your home (regardless of the size) working for you and your family. More such talented designers and their awesome works. I will soon be working on the post “how to make a mood board” as well as some original design content from ME. So stay tuned.
